Why Generator Maintenance is Important and types of DG set maintenance.

A diesel generator is a perfect source of quality power in demands where electric power fails from Grid. During Load shedding or thunderstorms, it is very common for different areas to experience extended cuts which result in loss of quality service and financial loss due to downtimes in commercial facilities.

In this article, we discuss 7 reasons why you should do maintenance regularly in time.

  1. It helps notice and repair generator problems as early as possible

Although diesel generators are sturdy, durable, and quite reliable, making sure they undergo preventive maintenance is recommended. Many DG sets show their failure during the operation. Regular preventive maintenance enables the technician to identify problems with your generator and resolve them before they get any worse.

  1. It ensures proper functionality

During maintenance, the technician checks on such issues as:

The fluid and oil levels

The status of the oil filters

The belts, hoses, lines, connectors, and any other accessories

The control panel as well as the engine

The exhaust system, and so on

Regularly checking all these aspects ensure that your generator performs optimally at all times.

  1.  It prevents carbon monoxide generation and poisoning

A generator that is not regularly maintained and lube oil is not change timely, is prone to producing carbon monoxide, which is fatal if it is inhaled. During the maintenance process, the technician will ensure that the generator is positioned in such a way that it releases any fumes outdoors rather than indoors.

  1. It increases Dg set’s efficiency

Wasps, birds, rats, snakes, and other critters can infest your generator’s housing. Rats and mice are especially notorious for setting up a nest and chewing through the appliance’s wiring. During maintenance, all the parts of your generator are checked and cleaned from potentially damaging dirt and debris. They are then tested to ascertain that they are working as intended. This improves your generator’s efficiency.

  1.  It helps prevent fuel problems or dry out

Generators running on diesel need to have the fuel supply or fill regularly without the tank goes empty.

  1. It ultimately saves you money

Ignoring regular generator maintenance might save you a few bucks today. However, this could lead to costly repairs. In extreme cases, you may have to replace the entire unit.

  1. It prolongs the generator’s lifespan

Keeping the generator properly maintained ensures that it runs smoothly for longer.
